BOGUS OFFICIALS - PROTECT YOURSELF There have been recent reports of individuals falsely claiming to be police officers, council workers, utility staff, or other officials to gain entry to homes, distract residents, or commit theft and robbery. Tips to protect yourself: • Always ask for ID. Genuine officials will always carry identification and won’t mind waiting while you check it. • Call to verify. If someone claims to be from the police call the organisation directly using a number of 101 or 999 to confirm their identity before letting them in. • Don’t be rushed. Genuine officials won’t pressure you to let them in immediately or get angry if you ask questions. • Watch for distraction tactics. Some bogus callers work in pairs — one distracts you at the door while another enters through the back. • Report suspicious callers. Contact your local police on 101 (or 999 if it’s an emergency) to report anyone acting suspiciously or claiming false identity. • Tell vulnerable neighbours. Elderly or isolated residents are often targeted — share these tips with them too. The SNT of Hyde Park ward will continue to patrol the area for reassurance and crime prevention
